Construction is set to start in September on Gungahlin’s Second College, located in Nicholls, with a $124 million investment to meet the needs of the region’s growing population.
The Second College for Gungahlin is expected to open in time for Term 1, 2029 with an initial capacity of 800 Year 11 and Year 12 students, and the ability to expand.
Canberra’s 10th public college will bring education closer to home for families, delivering modern, inclusive learning and teaching spaces, including a new performing arts theatre, gymnasium, tennis hard-courts and sports fields.
It will also deliver additional benefits for the local community, with spaces to meet alongside arts and sports facilities available for use outside of school hours.
The project will be all-electric and powered by solar, with state-of-the-art food technology classrooms, water-wise landscaping and active transport facilities.
Gungahlin’s Second College is part of the ACT Government’s record $800 million investment to build and upgrade public schools right across Canberra.
Local company Hindmarsh has been engaged as the construction delivery partner for the project.
