Brimbank City Council is offering library services in new ways to help the community stay connected while library doors are temporarily physically closed to the public.
Council’s libraries are expanding the Home Library Service by introducing the ‘To Your Door’ home delivery service for books and resources to all residents. Storytime and other library programs are being delivered to participants online.
‘Our libraries are meeting places that bring our community together to read, listen, engage, learn, grow and connect with the world. Even though library doors are closed, our libraries will be providing innovative ways to access collections, programs and information to support our community,’ Brimbank Mayor, Cr Georgina Papafotiou said.
‘Libraries change lives – we want to continue offering our much-loved library programming and services to residents as much as possible during the coronavirus crisis.
‘Sometimes there’s no replacing holding a book in your hand or reading a story to your child with others, our members have told us, so we’re offering this by popular demand.’
Parents, grandparents, carers and children including toddlers and babies can now clap, rhyme, dance and sing along to their favourite songs and stories by joining the Brimbank Libraries Storytime Facebook group.
Library programs will be delivered online where possible, including Resume Help, Practice Your English sessions and After School Activity Zone games and craft activities.
As part of the ‘Brimbank Library to your Door’ service, staff will deliver books, audio resources and DVDs to residents’ homes, while maintaining safe social distancing practices.

Online offerings will aim to mirror normal programming as much as possible during this time.
