Budget should contain more Labor policies

Tasmanian Labor
  • Five years and counting
  • Positive step towards electric conversion
  • Tasmania needs to see more of Labor’s policies adopted
  • Labor looks forward to the Gutwein Government adopting more of Labor’s policies when the Premier and Treasurer hands down this year’s Budget.

Shadow Treasurer and Energy Minister David O’Byrne said it was gratifying to see the government finally adopt a positive policy on electric vehicles – a policy that Labor first put forward in 2015.

“It’s only taken the Liberal Government five years to get on board with the roll out of electric vehicles across the state and local government fleets.

“When Labor announced its plan in 2015 to make Tasmania a global leader in electric transport technology, who would have thought it would take the Liberals this long to act to do something that is so clearly in the interests of the state.

“It’s taken five years for the Liberals to catch on to the direction the world is going and to start equipping our state to be part of the future growth in electric technology.

“Electric transport networks represent both new industry and an industry enabler for Tasmania.

“Labor hopes this represents the beginning of the Gutwein Government finally acting in the interests of the state and adopting more of Labor’s policies.

“We look forward to seeing more of Labor’s ideas in today’s Budget because we know Labor has the best plan for our state and it’s good to see that Peter Gutwein has finally seen this too.”
