The Buildcorp Wallaroos will continue their build-up to this year’s Rugby World Cup when they head to New Zealand to compete in the Pacific Four Series in June.
World Rugby has announced the details of the 2022 edition, with the Buildcorp Wallaroos, hosts New Zealand, Canada and USA going head-to-head in the annual cross-regional international competition, which will serve as crucial preparation for the Rugby World Cup in New Zealand in October.
The competition will take place over three match days on 6, 12 and 18 June and will be played at two of the Rugby World Cup venues – The Trusts Arena in Waitakere, and Semenoff Stadium in Whangarei. Fans will be able to purchase tickets from Ticketek next month.
The Buildcorp Wallaroos will open their Pacific Four Series account against traditional rivals, the New Zealand Black Ferns, in a preview of the opening match of October’s Rugby World Cup.
Matches against the USA Eagles at The Trusts Arena and then in Whangārei against Canada will round out the competition.
Buildcorp Wallaroos Head Coach Jay Tregonning said: “This is a huge announcement to kick-off what is going to be an important period for the team; with our second camp next week, and a Test series early next month.”
“With so few opportunities to play Tests in the last two years, the Pacific Four Series adds to an important schedule of warm-up matches for the World Cup.”
“To play the likes of Canada and the USA is not a privilege we’ve often had in the past and now having an annual competition with three of the top nations in the World is a huge step forward for this team and for Women’s Rugby in Australia.”
“We’ve spoken at length around taking our opportunities to play the best national sides in the World on a regular basis, and this competition will give us an opportunity to do that as we aim to keep moving our Women’s program forward.”
