Builder selected for Manjimup seniors housing project

  • Pindan Constructions Pty Ltd appointed builders for housing development
  • Construction of nine homes scheduled to commence in early 2019
  • A housing project for seniors in Manjimup is a step closer to fruition with the recent appointment of Pindan Constructions Pty Ltd as builders for the development.

Pindan will design and construct the first stage of the Cherry Glades estate – six, three-bedroom, two-bathroom dwellings and three, two-bedroom, two-bathroom dwellings.

Each home will be built to the minimum silver level liveable housing design standard, and will include generous verandahs as well as using building materials in keeping with the character of Manjimup.

Cherry Glades will deliver quality, age-friendly, independent-living and affordable housing to over-55s living in the region. Up to 60 affordable houses are planned across the five stages of the project.

The start of Stage 1A construction is expected in early 2019, along with sales, and completion is planned for August 2019.

Stage 1A will offer a mix of full market and shared equity sales, with rental options to follow in subsequent stages. This will enable access to housing by seniors with varying income and assets, and ensure security of tenure for residents.

Cherry Glades is a collaboration between the Department of Communities and the Shire of Manjimup, with support from the State Government and the South West Development Commission.

Expanding the range of housing opportunities for seniors is one of the goals of the State Government’s Affordable Housing Action Plan 2017-18 to 2019-20, which is led by the Department of Communities.

The plan commits to delivering 7,700 homes for people on low to moderate incomes, as well as investing in new construction that will support $2.3 billion in economic activity and almost 6,000 jobs over three years.

It also increases the previous government’s 2010-20 target of 30,000 affordable housing opportunities to a minimum of 35,000 by 2020.

As noted by Housing Minister Peter Tinley:

“I am pleased to see the steady progress of this important project, which will provide age-appropriate housing options currently not available in Manjimup. It will also support the local community through social connectivity and activity in the area.

“Residents at Cherry Glades will be able to age comfortably in their community, close to their family and friends and just a short walk from medical, retail and entertainment amenities.

“This investment in purpose-built accommodation will facilitate economic growth in the region for years to come through construction-related employment.”
