The Andrews Labor Government’s Growing Suburbs Fund has brought up its century today with the completion of the Hume Global Learning Centre in Sunbury.

The $21.5 million Centre is the 100th completed project made possible by the Fund, which supports community facilities, enhanced services and greater opportunities in Melbourne’s rapidly-growing interface councils.

Local Government Minister Adem Somyurek and Member for Sunbury Josh Bull visited the Centre to mark the completion of construction and celebrate the milestone.

The Hume Global Learning Centre is a state-of-the-art library and community education space built on the site of the old Sunbury Library.

The project received $3 million from the 2016-17 round of the Fund. The completed Centre includes space for IT skills courses, community events, exhibitions, seminars and co-working as well as expanded library collections.

It has been delivered by the Hume City Council, which contributed $18.5 million towards the cost.

Over the last four years, the Growing Suburbs Fund has backed more than 160 projects, invested $200 million and leveraged a combined investment of $520 million – creating more than 5,400 jobs.

The Fund has invested more than $19.5 million into the Hume City Council area for 17 different projects.
