Building more homes for Tasmanians

Michael Ferguson, Minister for Planning

The Rockliff Liberal Government is doing what matters for all Tasmanians by building more homes for Tasmanians and allowing them to realise their dream of home ownership.

Minister for Planning, Michael Ferguson, said our Government’s long-term plan supports major developments and investments in Tasmania as we continue to create jobs, boost the economy and make Tasmania the best place to work, live and raise a family.

“We know our plan is working with companies like Tas City Building recognising the potential for growth in suburbs such as George Town,” Mr Ferguson said.

“Tas City Building has just completed a 47 lot subdivision which I was very pleased to visit today and has another three builds with the George Town council for development approval.

“This is a significant investment in the region.

“I understand 20 lots have already been sold off market to investors, builders and developers which is great to see.

“The remaining lots will be a range of affordable housing from portable homes to conventional buildings.

“This new subdivision is generating work for the local building and construction industry, provide homes for families, stimulate the local economy and support further investment in the northern region.

“We know the investment pipeline for Northern Tasmania is strong, with recent announcements such as SunCable’s advanced high-voltage subsea cable manufacturing facility, and the Premier’s recent release of the northern prospectus will further support attracting major investments.

“Our regional towns are the backbone of Tasmania and they are places where people want to live.

“This new subdivision will support Tasmanians to do exactly that and is an excellent example of the private sector supporting the Rockliff Liberal Government’s ambitious long-term housing plan to deliver 10,000 more social and affordable homes by 2032.”
