Port Phillip Crime Investigation Unit detectives have released CCTV footage and are appealing for public assistance to identify a woman as part of an investigation into an incident in Port Melbourne last month.
Police have been told a 62-year-old woman was handing out flyers with a group of volunteers outside a supermarket on Bay Street when she was approached by an unknown woman, who appeared substance affected, on Saturday 17 October about 11.20am.
The unknown woman left a few minutes later without speaking to the group.
A short time later witnesses have described an incident where a vehicle mounted a gutter – in close proximity to those handing out flyers – before it swerved toward nearby traffic lights and left the scene.
Those involved where shaken following the incident and no one physically injured.
Detectives have spoken to several witnesses and after not identifying any relevant CCTV are today appealing for any other witnesses or motorists with information to come forward – to assist in establishing what occurred.
As part of this appeal investigators have released an image and CCTV vision of a woman they believe was in the area at the time.
They are hoping she may be able to assist the investigation.
The woman is described as Caucasian, aged approximately in her 20s and was wearing a pink dress and a blue hat.
At this stage it is unclear if the woman may have witnessed the incident or may have been driving nearby.
Investigators have been told the vehicle involved appeared to be an older model silver Toyota Rav 4, with an unknown registration.
Anyone with information about the identity of the female or has any information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit an online confidential report at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.
