The Rockliff Liberal Government is powering up the future for students and staff at Burnie High School.
Minister for Education, Children and Youth, Roger Jaensch, visited Burnie High School to inspect the new solar power installation recently installed as part of the Tasmanian LiberalGovernment’s $5 million Renewable Energy Schools Program.
“The students at Burnie are learning about the role of renewable energy in responding to climate change. Now their own school is part of the solution,” Minister Jaensch said.
Burnie High School is among the first schools to receive new solar power installations. Other schools in the first tranche include Bayview Secondary College, Clarence High School, Hobart City High School, Newstead College, Prospect High School, Riverside High School, and Southern Support School. Installation has already commenced at these sites, with seven awaiting commissioning to commence power generation.
The roll-out of Tranche 2 installations is expected to commence in late 2023 and includes:
- Albuera Street Primary School;
- Andrews Creek Primary School;
- Bagdad Primary School;
- Boat Harbour Primary School;
- Bridport Primary School;
- Brighton Primary School;
- Lilydale District School;
- Mount Stuart Primary School;
- Newtown Primary School;
- Northern Support School;
- Parklands High School;
- Scottsdale High School;
- Sheffield District School;
- Somerset Primary School;
- South Hobart Primary School;
- Sustainability Centre (Hobart College); and
- Wynyard High School.
Minister Jaensch said the Renewable Energy Schools Program was a 2021 election commitment to progressively roll-out new solar power installations at Government schools across the State.
“The Rockliff Liberal Government has a strong commitment to renewable energy initiatives. The savings in energy bills achieved through the Renewable Energy Schools Program will be re-invested back into the program to fund further solar installations and sustainable improvements in our schools.
“We’re sticking to our long-term plan and doing what matters for all Tasmanians through our commitment to net-zero emissions and a clean energy future.”
