Two new local bus services, announced last week by the State Government, have been welcomed by Melton City Council.
“We really appreciate that the State Government is hearing our concerns about transport connections in the City of Melton and taking action to improve our bus network,” City of Melton Mayor Cr Bob Turner said.
“It’s fantastic news that residents in Melton South, Aintree and Rockbank will soon have another way to get to work, school, sports and other activities.”
The new bus routes will connect residents to the new Cobblebank Station and the refurbished Rockbank Station later this year.
Cr Turner said the need for such investment in the City of Melton was increasing.
“In a fast growing city like ours, having more transport options is so important,” Cr Turner said.
“Our residents need to be better connected to everything from jobs, education and health services, to family, friends and leisure activities.
“I hope the great news on local public transport continues and I look forward to continuing our discussions with the State Government around our rail and bus network – particularly additional routes to new residential and industrial estates – as well as the desperate need to upgrade the Western Highway.”
New routes (coming in late 2019):
- Route 454 will connect the residents of Cobblebank (Atherstone estate) to the Melton and Cobblebank Stations – services every 40 minutes
- Route 444 will connect the residents of Aintree (Woodlea estate) to the refurbished Rockbank Station – services every 40 minutes off peak, and 30 minutes on peak
Extended route (coming in late 2019):
- Route 459 will soon extend further into the Arnolds Creek estate to connect more Harkness (Arnolds Creek estate) residents to the Melton Station – services every 30 minutes on peak
