Science & Technology Australia (STA) will deliver its flagship Science Meets Parliament program in Western Australia for the first time, creating new opportunities for the science and technology sector to connect with state decision-makers.
Hosted by the WA Parliament and delivered by STA, Science Meets Parliament Western Australia will take place in Perth on 21-22 October 2026. It marks the first time the event has been held outside Canberra.
The inaugural WA event will bring STA’s experience in connecting science and policy to a two-day program of professional development, direct meetings with parliamentarians and networking across research, industry and government.
STA President Jas Chambers said the expansion will build on the proven success of a program that has helped generations of STEM professionals engage with policymakers.
“Over 26 years Science Meets Parliament has built a stellar reputation. There is no other event like it, bringing together the brightest minds from science, technology, engineering and maths with decision-makers to shape Australia’s policies.”

Around 160 participants from partnering organisations across research, industry, government and Parliament are expected to take part.
STA is delivering the event in partnership with the WA Office of the Chief Scientist and the Parliamentary Friends of Science, Medical Advancement, Research, Technology and Talent (SMARTT) and supported by the Department of Energy and Economic Diversification.
Chief Scientist of Western Australia Professor Sharath Sriram said Science Meets Parliament creates a valuable opportunity for both scientists and policymakers.
“The event will showcase the depth and breadth of research and scientific excellence in our universities, industries, and government science agencies to Members of Parliament. Researchers will gain insights into translating scientific knowledge to engage directly with policymakers.”
Ms Chambers said the WA event also pointed to opportunities for stronger connections between science and parliaments across Australia.
“Every state and territory has scientific expertise that can help inform better decisions. We would welcome conversations with other governments about working with STA to bring Science Meets Parliament to their own communities.”
