Last chance for artists to secure a spot in Strand Ephemera 2027

The clock is ticking for artists keen to nab one of four major prizes in the renowned biennial public art festival Strand Ephemera.

The waterfront festival is back for another massive celebration of public art from July 24 to August 8 next year.

Artists will be competing for the $10,000 Artistic Excellence Award, the $1000 Environmental Advocate Award, the $1000 Young Artistic Excellence Award and the $1000 People’s Choice Award.

Strand Ephemera hopefuls have until 10am, November 10, to submit their artwork proposals for this showstopping outdoor festival.

Mayor Nick Dametto said Strand Ephemera was a fantastic opportunity for new and established artists to exhibit in one of the country’s most renowned public art festivals.

“Strand Ephemera is a massive drawcard for Townsville. We welcome tens of thousands of spectators, both locals and visitors, to this event every two years who get to enjoy the incredible artwork, our premier foreshore and our beautiful weather,” Cr Dametto said.

“Council is extremely proud to support both emerging and established artists, and Strand Ephemera is the perfect melting pot to see the talents of both professional and up-and-coming artists in one space.

“If you think you have an artwork or an art proposal that could be part of next year’s festival, make sure you submit it before Tuesday, November 3. Don’t miss this unique opportunity to be part of one of the country’s largest public arts festivals.”

To submit your concept or artwork, visit the Strand Ephemera website. Entries close at 10am on Tuesday 10 November 2026.
