- Cook Labor Government committed to diversifying WA’s economy and supporting local businesses
Western Australia’s premium food and beverage producers have been showcased to international buyers as part of the fifth annual Taste WA trade mission, supported by the Cook Labor Government and Australian Government.
A delegation of 12 buyers from China, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea, Vietnam, and the United Arab Emirates spent the week exploring Western Australia’s diverse food and beverage industry.
The mission took buyers to more than 20 locations across Perth, the South West, and Great Southern, connecting them directly with local farmers, fishers, food processors, and businesses.
The program showcased a range of premium WA products, including seafood, meat, fresh produce, and gourmet foods while giving buyers firsthand insight into the State’s high-quality and sustainable food production practices.
Highlights included an on-farm paddock lunch experience of local fresh produce, as well as an aquaculture tour and sampling of local seafood delicacies.
The delegation also attended Western Australia’s flagship food and beverage trade show Meet the Buyer, where more than 85 exhibitors showcased their products to domestic and international buyers.
Feedback from delegates was overwhelmingly positive, with buyers welcoming the opportunity to meet producers, discover innovative products, and learn more about where and how WA food is produced.
Now in its fifth year, Taste WA continues to build connections between local producers and international markets, supporting opportunities for WA businesses to grow their exports.
The mission was delivered by the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development in partnership with the Great Southern Development Commission, South West Development Commission, Chamber of Commerce and Industry WA, and the Australian Government’s TradeStart Network.
As stated by Agriculture and Food and Fisheries Minister Jackie Jarvis:
“Taste WA gives international buyers the chance to see the quality of Western Australia’s produce firsthand.
“During my recent trade mission to Vietnam, I met with major agribusinesses and food retailers to explore new opportunities for Western Australian products in this growing market.
“It was great to welcome buyers from Vietnam and other international markets to WA, giving them the chance to meet our producers, see where our food comes from, and build valuable business connections.
“Building strong relationships with international buyers is important for growing our exports, creating new opportunities for local businesses and supporting jobs in regional WA.”
