Bushwalker Safely Located At Cradle Mountain Overnight

An international tourist who became lost in the Cradle Mountain area was safely located overnight following a coordinated response by Search and Rescue personnel from Tasmania Police and the State Emergency Service.

The tourist contacted emergency services at approximately 7.26pm after becoming disorientated on the Cradle Mountain Summit Track near Smithies Peak. Initial information indicated the walker had left the summit and lost the marked track as darkness approached.

Police Search and Rescue coordinated the response, and the walker was safely located overnight. No injuries were reported.

Police remind bushwalkers that conditions in alpine environments can change rapidly, particularly after dark. Adequate preparation, appropriate equipment and reliable communications are essential for a safe trip.
