The City of Sydney has just opened Expressions of Interest for composers to create the original soundtrack for the Sydney New Year’s Eve 2027 midnight fireworks.
It’s one of Australia’s biggest music commissions, with the soundtrack broadcast to a global audience of more than 425 million people and heard live by more than a million people around Sydney Harbour. Even more interesting—the music is created first, and the fireworks are designed around it.
Applications are open until 7 September, with up to six composers to be shortlisted to develop a proposal for the final commission.
