The delivery of one of Western Australia’s most significant urban renewal projects, the Subi East Redevelopment, has reached another milestone with the formation of a Community Reference Group (CRG) to help shape the master planning process.
Nominations are now open for residents, community and special interest groups, as well as business organisations interested in participating in the Subi East CRG.
The CRG will play a critical role in providing input to the Subi East Master Plan – the ‘roadmap’ for future development across the 35-hectare precinct.
Consisting of up to 35 volunteers, the CRG will include a mix of up to 15 individuals from Subiaco and the wider Perth community, together with up to 20 representatives of key community and business organisations, all with an active interest in the delivery of the Subi East landmark renewal project.
The individual residents will be selected by random ballot and drawn from three different age groups, including residents aged 25 years and under, residents between the ages of 26 and 40, and residents over the age of 40. An independent probity auditor will oversee the ballot draw.
The organisational representatives will be nominated by their clubs, groups or associations, as identified by the Subi East team, with one spokesperson from each organisation to provide two-way feedback to the Subi East CRG and to the organisation they represent.
The first role of the CRG, which kicks off on February 22, 2020, will be to provide input into the cultural context of the Subi East precinct to help ensure the rich and diverse history (European and Whadjuk), heritage, multiculturalism and connection to the area from all demographics are considered and where possible reflected in the future development.
Once this stage is complete, the CRG will be asked to participate in further workshops and discussions on specific details relating to the master plan such as site layout and height of built form to best meet dwelling targets, streetscape, public realm and landscaping opportunities.
The Subi East Redevelopment project will provide more than 2,000 new dwellings around Subiaco Oval, the former Princess Margaret Hospital site and the railway reserve area next to West Leederville train station.

Nominations close at 5pm on February 12, 2020. The ballot will be held the next day with successful applicants notified on February 14, 2020.
