Calling all artists – Activate our towns

As part of the Arts and Culture Outdoor Activations Program, Council is seeking expressions of interest from accomplished local artist/producers to develop a program of activations in public spaces across the shire during summer and autumn 2022.

Mayor, Cr Jennifer Anderson said the aim of the program is to provide opportunities for local artists to activate local towns to help communities overcome any isolation experienced by COVID-19 and stimulate economic recovery for local businesses.

“Our communities and local businesses have faced enormous challenges during the past two years and through the Arts and Culture Outdoor Activation we will be engaging different artist/producers to program art works and performances in town public spaces to encourage increased levels of outdoor activity and enhance the vibrancy of shopping and dining precincts in our towns.”

Cr Anderson said the activations can be either performances, temporary installations or other arts based experiences. The artistic activations will happen from March to May 2022, and producers are encouraged to program events during Council’s exciting Autumn Festival (26 March to 25 April 2022).

“This program is about bringing businesses, community and artists together with the ultimate goal of delivering engaging experiences to reconnect communities and assist business recovery by helping to stimulate the local economy.”

“Macedon Ranges Shire has a wealth of talented artists, producers and performers and I know many of them are still recovering from the impacts of COVID on the creative sector. I encourage anyone with the creative skillset to submit a proposal to the program,” she said.

Applications close on 24 January 2022.
