Campaspe Shire Council is joining the Goulburn Murray Valley Regional Fruit Fly Group for another year to strengthen fruit fly management across the region.

The group comprised of Campaspe, Moira, Strathbogie, Berrigan and Greater Shepparton Councils was launched in 2016 and continues to see great results through the program.

Campaspe Shire Council, Director Sustainability Michael Sharp said the trapping and monitoring of fruit fly is vital to the produce and longevity of farmers in the region.

“The group continues to work on creating awareness and education within the community and across the relevant sectors of business and industry.

“One of the primary focuses for the group is removing trees across the shire that pose a threat and educating residents on what fruits and vegetables are most at risk,” Mr Sharp said.

Residents are encouraged to put control measures in place this season including setting traps, baiting, spraying and using netting.

“If you have any concerns or would like to discuss getting a tree removed, please call Council on 5481 2200 and one of our officers will discuss options for fruit fly management,” Mr Sharp added.
