Cancer Council WA has relaunched the powerful How To Tell You campaign following new survey* results showing almost 90 per cent of smokers who saw the ad last year reportedly thought about quitting.
Cancer Council WA Cancer Prevention and Research Director, Melissa Ledger, said the campaign, funded by Healthway and the Department of Health, is making an impact.
“The highly emotive How To Tell You campaign was launched in February last year to mark 25 years of Make Smoking History and shows the devastating impact a cancer diagnosis can have on families and communities,” Ms Ledger said.
We conducted a survey following the campaign and almost 90 per cent of surveyed smokers who saw the ad thought about quitting, almost 50 per cent said they would quit and just over 35 per cent they might quit.
Ms Ledger welcomed new state government measures to crack down on the illegal sale and supply of tobacco and e-cigarettes in WA and said well-designed public education campaigns remain more important than ever.
“Reducing tobacco supply is critical to promoting health, and people who smoke also need support to quit,” she said.
“The Make Smoking History campaign plays a key role in helping West Australians take steps towards quitting.”
The relaunch of How To Tell You will run from 22 February to 25 July. Media will include metro and regional TV (including NITV), digital video, radio, streaming, podcasts, out-of-home and digital display, with strong social and search support to maximise reach and visibility.
