Cane Toad Discovered in Parramatta LGA

A large cane toad was found early this morning at Stevens Street Reserve in Ermington by a City of Parramatta Council bush regeneration contractor.

The contractor contacted Council. Council staff dressed in protective wear, including gloves, long-sleeved shirts and glasses, and collected the toad. It was taken to a vet to be euthanised.

This was the second cane toad sighting in the City of Parramatta in six weeks.

Members of the public are reminded not to touch cane toads. They secrete a poison than can be dangerous to pets and humans. They can also be mistaken for some native frog species.

If a suspected cane toad is spotted, residents and visitors are advised to call City of Parramatta Council or the NSW Department of Primary Industries (DPI) immediately.
