Capital Chemist Chisholm in ACT named Guild Pharmacy of Year

Capital Chemist Chisholm in the ACT has been named the Guild Pharmacy of the Year 2020.

The Guild Pharmacy of the Year awards highlight and honour pharmacies that are leaders in adapting and innovating to provide the best healthcare for members of their communities.

At a time when community pharmacists and their staff across Australia are facing unprecedented demand and pressures as frontline health professionals helping patients during the COVID-19 crisis, the Pharmacy of the Year award is a fitting reminder of the pivotal role pharmacies play in the lives of all Australians.

The awards recognise excellence in pharmacy with the announcement of winners across three categories, one of which is named the Pharmacy of the Year.

The category winners this year are:

  • Excellence in Professional Innovation – Wizard Pharmacy Kalgoorlie Central
  • Excellence in Community Engagement – Wheatbelt Health Centre Pharmacy
  • Excellence in Business Management – Capital Chemist Chisholm

A spokesperson for the judging group, pharmacist Nick Panayiaris, Pharmacy Guild of Australia National Councillor and President of the South Australian Branch of the Guild, said Capital Chemist Chisholm has consistently sought to improve its services, performance and viability while maintaining its position as an integral part of the community it serves.

“This pharmacy has a very clear and researched understanding of its community from which it has developed a service tailored to the community’s needs,” Mr Panayiaris said.

“It has done this while also ensuring its business management strategies are second to none because it faces the need to constantly improve and evolve in the competitive market that community pharmacy is today.

“It has also built these management practices around the pharmacy’s business and its professional service innovation which is another outstanding feature of the pharmacy.

“This is an exemplar of the community pharmacy of the future.”

Care Pharmaceuticals’ General Manager Jonathan Biddle said the awards were a highlight of the pharmacy calendar and Care Pharmaceuticals was proud to sponsor an event which celebrated excellence in the profession.

“We are proud to be part of that profession and to be able, through the Pharmacy of the Year competition, to give back to that sector which is so much a part of our everyday business,” he said.

“Care Pharmaceuticals is committed to improving the health of communities across Australia which is also a common theme in this competition, so our philosophies are closely aligned.

“But today is about the success of community pharmacies which have excelled in all aspects of their clinical and business operations.

“These are the pharmacies of the future and models which others can emulate. The videos we have seen today give us a glimpse of what has made them so special and endeared by the people they serve.”

Proprietor of Capital Chemist Chisholm Rebecca Young said being named Guild’s Pharmacy of the Year was both exciting and humbling.

“To be recognised as the Pharmacy of the Year is testament to all the work everyone in this pharmacy does every day, and to all our patients who make this work so rewarding,” she said.

“Every member of the staff here is a highly valued and integral part of the team. We consult with the team, listen to the team and work as a team and the results are clear in us being given this award.

“We have a very focussed policy of growing and innovating and the team is right behind this every step of the way.

“Our patients have also been supported us in our innovation and this is really rewarding.

“We will use this award as a basis to continue improving and growing.”
