The exhibition showcases nine artworks by pioneering Australian new media artists Tim and Mic Gruchy, blending art, technology and immersive storytelling to explore themes including nature, artificial intelligence, perception and identity.
Deputy Mayor and Divisional Councillor Suzy Batkovic said the exhibition offers a unique opportunity for the community to experience innovative contemporary art.
“This is a fantastic opportunity for residents to experience an exhibition that pushes creative boundaries through a visually engaging and thought-provoking collection of works,” Cr Batkovic said.
“Tim and Mic Gruchy have combined digital media, moving image, sound and technology to create immersive artworks that invite audiences to reflect on our relationship with the world around us.
“Townsville City Council is proud to bring a diverse range of touring exhibitions to our city, and The Brothers Gruchy is an exciting addition to this year’s Galleries Exhibition Calendar.”
Artist Mic Gruchy said their art was about creating conversation and connecting communities right across Australia.
“We recognise the critical importance of having dialogue and connection across all communities, remote, regional, and metropolitan,” he said.
“Art is communication, often ephemeral, but always emotional and engaging.
“It should be a universal experience for all Australians, no matter where they live.”
Museums and Galleries Queensland Exhibitions Coordinator Andrea Higgins said Townsville was a fitting final stop on the exhibition’s national tour.
“Many of the artworks explore the environment and the challenges it faces in the 21st century,” Ms Higgins said.
“As a gateway to the Great Barrier Reef and the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area, Townsville is surrounded by some of Australia’s most significant natural landscapes.
“The exhibition’s exploration of nature and human impact makes it particularly relevant to our region and provides an opportunity for meaningful reflection and discussion.”
The exhibition officially launches at 10am on Saturday 17 October 2026, and features an artist talk by Tim Gruchy.
The Brothers Gruchy will be on display at Pinnacles Gallery until 31 January 2027.
