Cash and drugs seized after arrest in Laverton

Police have arrested a man following an incident in Laverton this morning.

Patrolling police observed a motorbike travelling along Koroit Creek Road about 12.20am.

An attempt to intercept the bike on Tyquin Street saw the rider allegedly accelerate away from police.

Police did not pursue the bike however the rider crashed into a nearby street sign and attempted to flee on foot.

The man threw a bag over a fence as he attempted to escape police, however, he was arrested.

Police retrieved the bag and located just over $10K cash and drugs inside.

The 36-year-old Point Cook man was taken to hospital with a leg injury.

He remains under police guard and will be interviewed in relation to the drugs and cash as well as traffic offences.

The man was also found to be in breach of the directions issued by the Chief Health Officer and will be issued a $1652 penalty notice.

The directions by the Chief Health Officer, under the State of Emergency declared in Victoria, have been enacted to help stop the spread of Coronavirus.
