CBD pedestrian crossing works to commence

Greater Shepparton City Council is pleased to advise works will begin at various locations within the central business district to improve pedestrian crossings.

Council has partnered with Regional Roads Victoria to see a number of safety improvements be made for pedestrians on our road ways with six sites determined to begin works in the coming weeks.

Locations include:

  • Fryers St and Maude St intersection
  • Fryers St, midway between Maude St and Corio St
  • Fryers St and Corio St roundabout
  • Corio St and Stewart St intersection (dependent on funding)
  • Corio St, midway between Vaughan St and Ashenden St
  • North St and Stewart St intersection

Greater Shepparton City Council Director Infrastructure Phil Hoare said once the works were complete, the raised crossings will be more visible and encourage drivers to reduce speeds in these areas.

“It is important we provide a safe environment for all road users including pedestrians. The pavement at these locations will be raised by 100mm encouraging drivers to reduce their speeds and providing better visibility for pedestrians,” Mr Hoare said.

“During the works there will be some disruptions to traffic flow and parking in the area however access to all businesses will be available and Council is committed to working with businesses and contractors to minimise the impacts of the projects.”

Council advises commuters to be aware of changes to the traffic flow and pedestrian access and observe any road signage in the area. Please take care while travelling and leave a little bit earlier to allow for any delays due to the works.
