Charges- Hit and run in Alice Springs

Northern Territory Police are urging the outstanding occupant from a vehicle involved in a hit and run incident that left a man with life threatening injuries in Alice Springs overnight, to come forward.

Four people aged from 19 to 13-years-old were arrested and charged after the vehicle they were travelling in went through a red traffic light, colliding with a motorcyclist.

The vehicle failed to stop at the scene, where the 47-year-old male rider suffered life threatening injuries.

Three people aged 19, 16 and 13-years-old were arrested after they attempted to flee a stolen motor vehicle which was spiked by a police tyre deflation device on Grevilla Drive late last night.

A fourth person, a 15-year-old male was identified and arrested by Detectives from the Alice Springs Criminal Investigation Branch late today.

A 19-year-old man has been charged with one count each of;

• Drive motor vehicle cause serious harm

• Hit and run cause serious harm

• Unlawful use of a motor vehicle – cause injury to person

• Fail to rescue/provide help

• Drive motor vehicle unlicensed

• Fail to obey directions of police officer

The 16 and 13-year-old were both charged with one count each of :

• Drive motor vehicle cause serious harm

• Hit and run cause serious harm

• Unlawful use of a motor vehicle – cause injury to person

• Fail to rescue/provide help

A 15-year-old male has been charged with :

• Drive motor vehicle cause serious harm

• Hit and run cause serious harm

• Unlawful use of a motor vehicle – cause injury to person

• Fail to rescue/provide help

• Drive unlicensed

• Enter intersection against red light.

The four have been bailed to appear before court at a later date. Police continue to conduct inquiries to identify the fifth person who was in the vehicle at the time.
