Charges laid; licences suspended over speeding on Sydney’s motorways, NSW

The Traffic and Highway Patrol Command has suspended the licences of two drivers – including one holding a P2 provisional licence – after they were allegedly detected travelling twice the speed limit on Sydney’s motorways.

Just before 12.30pm yesterday (Thursday 2 July 2020), officers from the Traffic and Highway Patrol Command were conducting speed enforcement duties on the M4 at Granville, when they detected a Subaru Impreza sedan travelling 162km/hr in an 80km/hr zone.

The vehicle was stopped, and officers spoke with the driver – a 22-year-old Seven Hills man. He was issued an infringement notice for exceed speed over 45km/hr and had his licence suspended.

About 3.30pm yesterday, an Audi sedan was detected travelling 196km/hr in a 110km/hr zone as officers were conducting speed enforcement duties on the M1 at Maddens Plains.

After the vehicle was stopped, the driver – a 26-year-old man – produced a P2 provisional driver licence.

He was issued a Court Attendance Notice for drive at a speed dangerous to the public and exceed speed limit over 45km/hr (P2 special speed limit). His licence was also suspended on-the-spot.

The Kirrawee man is due to appear before Wollongong Local Court on Tuesday 29 September 2020.

Anyone with information about dangerous driving behaviours is urged to contact Crime Stoppers: 1800 333 000 or https://nsw.crimestoppers.com.au. Information is treated in strict confidence.
