Charges update: Drug trafficking extradition, Gold Coast

Detectives from the Gold Coast Major and Organised Crime Squad (MOCS) have charged a 45-year-old man following his extradition from Sydney today.

It will be alleged the offence, identified during Operation Lima Versatile, occurred on the Gold Coast between 2014 and 2015 and involved the commercial trafficking of methylamphetamine (Ice).

The man had been in custody in New South Wales on unrelated charges and was due for release into the community.

The 45-year-old Gold Coast man has been charged with one count each of trafficking dangerous drugs, money laundering, possession of dangerous drugs (steroids) and possession of relevant substance (butanieol).

He will appear at the Southport Magistrates Court on Monday, March 4.

Detective Inspector Glen Donaldson of the MOCS praised the dedication of all officers involved

“This has been a protracted and exhaustive investigation and highlights the tenacity of detectives from the Major and Organised Crime Squad to target serious and organised crime on the Gold Coast,” Detective Inspector Donaldson said.

“Dangerous drugs such as ice cause significant harm within our community.

“We encourage members of the public to contact police and help us stop crime and make the community safer”.
