Child and Family Learning Centre State-wide Day

Roger Jaensch, Minister for Education, Children and Youth

Improving the health, wellbeing, education and care of Tasmania’s children from birth to age five is a priority for the Tasmanian Liberal Government.

It was an honour to celebrate the important work our Child and Family Learning Centres (CFLC) are doing in this space at the first annual event since 2020.

Held in Launceston, all CFLCs came together to provide a memorable and fun day for families and children, with inquiry-based learning experiences and breakout sessions focussed on engaging with community.

There was also a focus on Aboriginal culture and learning through connection to country, community, language, storytelling, art and bush food.

Internationally regarded as best practice for supporting a great start for our youngest learners, the CFLCs are community driven, with locals involved in the process of designing and shaping each centre.

Our Government recognises the important role these centres play in supporting children from pregnancy to age 5 with early learning through the provision of quality, play-based experiences that also supports families.

I am proud that we are strengthening communities and enhancing the accessibility of services by delivering on our $28 million commitment to build six new centres across Tasmania.

We are also investing $3.82 million to provide more services for families, with speech and language pathologists, school psychologists and social workers now working in our CFLCs, connecting with families to support learning and wellbeing.

This commitment will provide a variety of critical services and much-needed support to those families and young children experiencing vulnerability and disadvantage.

Our CFLCs do a fantastic job creating strong, connected communities that support families to thrive and I would like to thank the staff and all those involved in putting together the state-wide event.
