Child dies after being found in river north-east of Grafton, NSW

A child has died after being found unresponsible in a river on the North Coast

Emergency services were called to a property on the Clarence River at Palmers Island, 55km north-east of Grafton, about 10.15am today (Sunday 15 May 2022), after a 19-month-old girl was reported missing.

Officers attached to Coffs/Clarence Police District attended and began searching the property and surrounding area.

The girl was found unresponsive in the river about 20 minutes later.

Police performed CPR until NSW Ambulance paramedics arrived and took her to Maclean Hospital; however, the child was unable to be revived.

An investigation has now commenced into the circumstances surrounding her death.

Those inquiries are continuing and a report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
