City invites input into outdoor exercise equipment renewal

The City of Greater Geelong is inviting the community to have a say into the renewal of its outdoor exercise equipment at Barwon Valley Fun Park and Rippleside Outdoor Fitness Station.

Council committed $200,000 in the 2023-2024 budget for outdoor exercise equipment renewal.

Proposed outdoor exercise equipment design options have been created for each site and consist of both fixed and moving pieces. Diagrams of the proposed designs, along with an opportunity to contribute to the conversation can be found by going to the outdoor exercise equipment renewal have your say page.

Proposed designs at Barwon Valley Fun Park include:

  • Step Up Blocks
  • Stepper Machines
  • Abs Board
  • Power Tower
  • Balance Board
  • Elliptical Trainers
  • Double Tai-Chi Wheels
  • Shoulder Wheel

While the following items are proposed at Rippleside:

  • Step Up Blocks
  • Elliptical Trainers
  • Power Tower
  • Abs Board
  • Double Tai-Chi Wheels
  • Stepper Machines
  • Pull-up Bars
  • Balance Board

The engagement has opened and will be taking feedback until 5pm on Sunday 10 December 2023.

Greater Geelong Mayor Trent Sullivan

I urge residents to have their say on the proposed plans.

Barwon Valley Fun Park and Rippleside are two well established and regularly visited play and exercise spaces.

Now this renewal process gives us an opportunity to pause and take a look at what the community really wants in an outdoor exercise space.

I encourage residents to take up this opportunity to have their say on the proposed plans.

Councillor Elise Wilkinson – Active Spaces Portfolio Deputy Chair

Responding to the survey questions will help the City to understand community views on the proposed renewal plans.

The intended renewal of these two fitness stations is an important step in providing for the recreational and fitness needs of families in the community.

We understand the importance of providing stations that are easily accessible to residents, and that includes equipment that is both entertaining and testing, while maintaining high and safe Australian standards.

I urge residents to have input on the Barwon Valley Fun Park and/or Rippleside Outdoor Fitness Station, and help the City understand how it can best meet the needs of our community.
