City of Ballarat to Address backlog of Crate Orders

The City of Ballarat continues to be encouraged by the response from the Ballarat public to the Pass on Glass sites to deposit their glass bottles and jars for recycling.

Here is an update of what will be happening as we move into the third week of the recycling changes.

  • Frequent daily inspections will continue at all drop-off sites over the weekend and bins will be emptied when necessary

  • Residents are encouraged to utilise the contact telephone number 5320 5500 if they notice overloading or other issues at any of the drop-off points

  • The Drop-Off site at the Ballarat Greyhound Racing Club has been moved to the northern end of the car park for easy access (follow the signs)

  • Commercial operators are asked to refrain from using the glass drop-off sites – as these are for domestic use only and not designed to accept large volumes. Light commercial operators can deliver up to 2 x 240 litre bins at the Gillies Street Transfer Station or can contact Council for advice

  • Additional people will be out delivering crates next week to those residents who ordered them online to take their glass recyclables to the drop-off sites. Council will work its way through the current backlog of orders.

The City’s commitment to provide only crates made from 100% recyclable materials has caused this delay in deliveries, and Council is grateful for residents’ continued patience.

In the meantime, residents should feel free to use other household containers or a cardboard box to deliver their bottles and jars to the Pass on Glass sites. Please keep up the good work of only depositing clean bottles and removing lids.
