City of Ballarat to relocate emergency food relief drop off point to Soccer Facility at Morshead Park

The Soccer Facility at Morshead Park off Pleasant Street will become the new location for the emergency Foodbank relief drop-off point from Monday 25 May.

As part of the Be Kind Ballarat campaign, the City of Ballarat is asking residents to continue to drop off food donations between 10am and 12pm on weekdays to the new location at Morshead Park, starting Monday.

Council is seeking donations of all non-perishable items including flour, tinned fruit and vegetables, long life milk, rice, tuna, soups, tea, coffee, pasta, pasta sauce and personal hygiene products.

However, the drop-off point will not be able to take perishable items at this stage.

The donations will be given to local welfare organisations for distribution to vulnerable people in the community.

City of Ballarat Mayor Cr Ben Taylor said: “We have seen a fantastic level of support and contribution by our local community donating food items and applaud the wonderful work of all our local welfare agencies in supporting vulnerable members of our community.”

However, Cr Taylor added the new location would not be an emergency food collection point but would be a drop-off point only.

“Distribution of these food items will remain with welfare organisations across the city who continue to do tremendous work supporting vulnerable community members.

“I have been really encouraged by the generosity of Ballarat residents, who have embraced the Be Kind message and continue to show their kindness to those who are struggling in our community.”

The emergency food relief drop-off point was previously located at the Ballarat Central Library from Friday 1 May to Monday 25 May.
