In its first meeting of the year, the City of Norwood Payneham & St Peters has unanimously endorsed its inaugural 2024 – 2027 Arts & Culture Plan, paving the way for creative ventures and innovative opportunities over the next three years.
The Arts & Culture Plan will guide the Council’s arts and culture initiatives, service delivery and collaborative partnerships.
Mayor Robert Bria said the City of Norwood Payneham & St Peters is renowned for its cultural heritage and is home to the Cultural Heritage Centre at St Peters Town Hall Complex.
“Our City is also widely recognised for its arts with initiatives such as the Quadrennial Public Art Program and Art on Parade which are funded and delivered by the Council.”
“The Council has adopted the 2024 – 2027 Arts & Culture Action Plan to help spark new collaborations to create distinct experiences that can be enjoyed by locals and visitors alike in the City of Norwood Payneham & St Peters.”
“The Arts & Culture Plan, developed in partnership with our community through two rounds of consultation, aims to invigorate places and spaces across the City through fresh creative ventures, innovative partnerships and sustainable business opportunities for growth, imagination and connection.”
The Plan also illustrates and reinforces the benefit of aggregating all of the Councils initiatives in the newly established Arts Culture & Community Connections Unit.
Key actions and strategies in the Plan include, but are not limited to:
- the development of a Public Art Masterplan to assist the Council to identify where public art thrives and where opportunities exist.
- the Heritage Collection Digitisation Project to create a searchable online catalogue to improve community access to the Council’s heritage collection.
- encourage artists to explore novel and unconventional approaches to art and proposed artist in residence program.
- explore collaborative partnerships to develop and expand audience access and engagement with emerging artforms and;
- explore digital literacy programs to reduce barriers to innovation and creativity and to increase artist confidence to adopt new technologies within their arts practice.
