The high-quality skills of the City of Swan’s Project Management team were celebrated with significant wins at both the 2026 Parks and Leisure Australia (PLA) Awards and the West Australian Local Government Association (WALGA) Awards.
Team members, who deliver hundreds of community projects each year, were acknowledged for industry excellence, outstanding initiatives and innovative efforts.
Congratulations to Janeta Kursumovic, Project Manager and Kayla McNicol, Senior Project Manager, who each won a significant industry award at the events.
Janeta won the 2026 David Aldous Emerging Leader WA at the Parks and Leisure Australia – WA Region Awards on June 11. Transitioning from finance into project management, she now contributes to the delivery of major recreation infrastructure including the $145 million Swan Active Ellenbrook project.
Janeta has demonstrated leadership through acting in Senior Project Manager roles while undertaking formal project management qualifications, positioning her as a highly promising future leader in the parks and leisure industry.
The award recognises and celebrates outstanding contributions made by a student or emerging professional in a course of study leading to a nationally recognised sector qualification in Australia or who has made a significant contribution to the parks and leisure industry.
Janeta will now be a finalist in the national PLA awards held later this year.
“This award is a great honour that reflects the support, mentorship and opportunities I’ve been fortunate to receive from the City of Swan,” she said.
Meanwhile, Kayla received the award of merit at the WALGA Local Government Awards 2026 on June 12.
The Merit Award is presented to Elected Members and Officers for notable contributions to the Western Australian Local Government Association (WALGA), their local council, or the broader Local Government sector.
Tanya Richardson, City of Swan Mayor, said the awards reflect the City’s commitment to delivering vital community projects.
“Both these awards reflect the dedication, professionalism and a strong commitment to community outcomes.
“They recognise the passion, innovation and hard work our team members bring to their projects,” she said.
