Data released by the State Government today shows the City of Greater Bendigo performed well in 2019/2020 across many key service areas.
For the 2019/2020 financial year, community satisfaction with Council’s decisions was higher compared to similar Local Governments. The City also recorded strong results for the proportion of library resources less than five years old and for maternal and child health indicators.
The City performed well in the amount of kerbside waste diverted from landfill (50 per cent) and had the least number of missed kerbside bin collections in comparative indicators.
The City also achieved top ranking for sealed roads maintained to condition standards and strong community satisfaction with sealed local roads.
The data on the website is collected from all Councils in Victoria as part of the State Government’s Local Government Performance Reporting Framework.
The City is included in the ‘Regional City’ category and the community can compare our performance with other Councils in the category, including Geelong, Ballarat, Shepparton, Latrobe, Mildura, Warrnambool, Wodonga, Horsham and Wangaratta.
Comparisons are made in the following categories: animal management, aquatic facilities, food safety, governance, roads, statutory planning, waste collection, financial performance, sustainable capacity, libraries, and maternal and child health
Corporate Performance Director Andrew Cooney said the Know Your Council data showed the City was performing well in most areas.
“The Know Your Council data provides useful indicators on how we are performing,” Mr Cooney said.
“It helps us track our progress over time and make improvements to our services.
“Our local road performance continues to be strong.
“Almost 100% of our roads are maintained to condition standards and our community satisfaction with sealed roads is strong compared to other similar Councils.
“In terms of waste management and costs, we are continuing to work on this. A large part of this cost is associated with the mandatory payment of the landfill levy to the Environment Protection Authority and new changes in the recycling markets means more packaging items are no longer accepted in kerbside recycling.
“We continue to review arrangements of garbage collection services to ensure we are providing a high-quality service that delivers value for the community.
“The City is always seeking to improve its services in the community wherever possible, but overall, I think this year’s results again show we are providing sustainable, high quality services to our community, despite the serious impact of the pandemic in the last quarter.”
