City reissues call for community members for new Public Open Space Advisory Committee

The City of Greater Bendigo is reissuing a call for expressions of interest from community members who would like to be considered for the newly created Public Space Advisory Committee. The new committee will contribute to the long-term vision for Greater Bendigo’s local parks, open spaces and recreation reserves.

City of Greater Bendigo Health and Wellbeing Director Vicky Mason said the City had called for expressions of interest for the new committee in March but due to the impact of COVID-19 had received limited response.

“Unfortunately, the timing of calling for expressions of interest for this new committee coincided with the lockdown associated with COVID-19 and as a result we received limited response from people who would potentially be interested in being part of the committee and extending a further expression of interest period is considered the fair thing to do,” Ms Mason said.

“This is an important new committee that will contribute to the long-term vision for our local parks, open spaces and recreation reserves and we are looking for five community members who have a strong interest, passion and experience in Greater Bendigo’s many parks, open spaces and recreation reserves

“The committee will be a formal advisory committee of Council and membership will be for four years. The committee will meet six times a year to provide an important advisory and advocacy role for a diverse range of matters related to our open spaces.

“The committee’s role is to provide the best possible advice, guidance and strategic representation to Council on matters concerning our green spaces.

“The formation of the committee is also one of the key actions outlined in the City’s 2018 Public Space Plan.

“The City’s open spaces are highly valued and important facilities that cater to residents, visitors, local groups and organisations and the general health and wellbeing of the community.”

Expressions of interest will close on Friday September 4, 2020 and shortlisted applicants will be invited to attend an interview in late September.
