Western Australian families with school-age children are now able to apply for hundreds of dollars in financial support – with cost of living relief payments of $250 for each secondary student and $150 for primary and kindergarten students available to help with the extra costs associated with school.
From today, families are encouraged to claim the WA Student Assistance Payment, which is funded through the Cook Labor Government’s $103.5 million financial support package helping to reduce the pressure of school expenses for parents.
The payments will assist families with the cost of school essentials – like books and IT equipment, sport and music costs, stationery, school shoes, uniforms, excursions and camps, plus other extra costs, including food and groceries.
Claims can be made through the ServiceWA app for all students from kindergarten to year 12 who are enrolled in a WA public or non-Government school or registered for home education. Applications close on 28 June.
Eligibility will be validated through the student’s unique WA student number (WASN), which can be found on a student’s SmartRider, school report or NAPLAN results.

“With claims now open, I encourage families to apply to access extra help with their school costs.
“If you claim through the ServiceWA app, the payment will be in your bank account in around a week.”

“The Cook Government is committed to addressing cost of living issues, and the WA Student Assistance Payment builds on the support already provided through our free public transport initiatives, household electricity credits and targeted programs for those who need it most.
“Our responsible financial management gives us the capacity to be able to help Western Australian parents with the extra costs associated with sending children to school.
“We hope this latest support will go some way to helping parents get their children what they need – I encourage families to claim now using the ServiceWA app.”
As stated by Education Minister Dr Tony Buti:
“This payment will put money back into the pockets of families who have paid for new school shoes, uniforms, books and other school supplies this year, as well as those who still need help buying supplies or food for lunch boxes.
“The WA Student Assistance Payment is an effective way to help ease the burden of school costs on the family budget and still make it possible to afford important extras like camps and excursions.
“Education is vital for our children, and we want to ensure that families can provide everything students need for school, regardless of their financial situation.”
