A total of 14,824 students have completed the South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE) this year.
1141 merit certificates were awarded to 902 students across the state.
This year also saw a record 2488 students complete a VET Certificate III as part of their SACE, 283 more than last year.
Other notable achievements from the Class of 2018 include:
- 97.4% of Year 12 students, enrolled as of October 2018, successfully completed their SACE.
- 3840 students in country South Australia completed their SACE.
- 42.4% of SACE completers included VET in their studies.
- 364 Aboriginal students completed their SACE.
- The number of students with an intellectual disability who completed their SACE (with one or more modified subjects) increased to 239 this year.
Education Minister John Gardner has congratulated the Class of 2018 on their achievements.
“While it is not the be all and end all, completing the SACE is an important achievement in many of our students’ lives and the culmination of many years of hard work, and I congratulate our young people on their efforts,” said Minister Gardner.
“I also welcome the increase in the number of students completing their SACE with a skills-based VET qualification.
“The ability for students to complete their SACE with a VET qualification is in line with the Government’s commitment to offer more opportunity and choice for young South Australians to develop the knowledge and skills for the jobs of the future.”
2018 also marks the first time that SACE completion data includes the proportion of students who started their Personal Learning Plan (PLP) and completed their SACE over a three-year period from Years 10 to 12.
This year a total of 78.2% of students who started their PLP in 2016 went on to complete their SACE.
“Today we are also delivering on one of the recommendations of the SACE Review by reporting completion rates against Year 10 PLP enrolments,” said Minister Gardner.
“This new measurement is an open and transparent way to track SACE completion and will help the Government, SACE Board and the education sector identify strategies to improve the number of students completing their SACE.”
Professor Martin Westwell, Chief Executive of the SACE Board, also welcomed the inclusion of the new PLP to Year 12 completion rate.
“The SACE is a valuable qualification for everyone that sets the foundation for the next step in a student’s life,” Professor Westwell said.
“We need to be uncompromising about what every student should feel entitled to take away with them when they leave school. As a result, this additional way to measure SACE completion will provide invaluable information that will assist in increasing the number of students completing their SACE.
“There are so many ways that students have today achieved success, I congratulate each and every one of our SACE completers on their achievements.”
Results are available online from 8.30am at sace.sa.edu.au, and students are scheduled to receive hard copies of their results in the post over the coming days.
