Collaboration to get in good books with Transperth passengers

  • Transperth and State Library of WA running library membership campaign
  • Commuters can access thousands of free electronic books, magazines and movies
  • A novel collaboration between Transperth and the State Library of Western Australia is introducing more public transport commuters to the thousands of free books, magazines, newspapers and movies easily available at their fingertips.

Transperth trains and buses have always been a place where passengers can enjoy their commute buried in the pages of a good book, and this initiative aims to get more people signed up to enjoy the range of entertaining free resources the library has to offer.

No longer limited to loaning out physical books, library resources can now be carried in your pocket via phones and tablets. At the State Library of WA, this includes access to more than 56,000 eBooks, 9,000 audiobooks, digital magazines and newspapers and the movie streaming service Kanopy – all for free. As stated by Transport Minister Rita Saffioti:

“The ability to enjoy a book while commuting is one of the best things about opting to catch public transport rather than drive.

“Many Perth commuters already pull out their paperback, eBook or audiobook as soon as they get on the bus or train, and we hope this brilliant new initiative will invite more passengers to do the same.

“We live busy lives and the ability to relax for a few minutes while somebody else drives us to and from work is something we should all be enjoying.”

As stated by Culture and the Arts Minister David Templeman:

“This is a fantastic initiative that helps bring the magic of reading to thousands of people every day.

“Free membership with the State Library of WA ensures that the wonderful material that is available at the library is accessible by all.”
