Working with Northern Territory Police Force and Australian Federal Police officers, Air Force security forces (SECFOR) used transportable closed-circuit television systems and high-visibility patrols to enhance security in and around RAAF Base Darwin during Exercise Diamond Storm.

The team effort was centrally monitored by personnel at the Joint Emergency Services Control Centre at the Peter McAulay Centre in Berrimah.

RAAF Base Darwin’s security flight commander, Flying Officer Jordon Haskins, said the spirit of collaboration between the agencies was high during the exercise.

“Working alongside these agencies was rewarding and greatly contributed to SECFOR’s mission success of asset protection during Exercise Diamond Storm,” Flying Officer Haskins said.

Integrating with the other agencies also provided learning opportunities for SECFOR personnel at an individual and collective level.

The personnel from all agencies forged a strong, adaptable and resilient team, ensuring the safety and security of personnel, aircraft, assets and facilities.

Flying Officer Haskins said fostering interagency relationships was vital to layering security effects.

“Being able to share information and have the ability to effectively coordinate a timely response to security matters was essential to mission success,” Flying Officer Haskins said.

Exercise Director for Diamond Storm, Group Captain Matthew Harper, thanked Northern Territory Police Commissioner Jamie Chalker and Australian Federal Police Superintendent Matthew Ballard for the combined effort at RAAF Base Darwin on June 17.

Commissioner Jamie Chalker said Northern Territory Police “are always committed to enhancing our partnerships”.

“In the Territory, helping each other out is what Territorians do, and I look forward to continuing the relationship and ensuring that Northern Territory Police can lend a hand whenever we can,” Commissioner Chalker said.

“Congratulations to the aviators who have completed their certification during this exercise. We’ve enjoyed watching and hearing you in the skies of the Top End.”
