Commissioner appointed to lead Qld Racing Integrity Commission

JOINT STATEMENT

Mr Shane Gillard, an accomplished senior executive, has been appointed as the new Commissioner of the Qld Racing Integrity Commission following an open merit recruitment process.

Mr Gillard has many years of leadership experience across regulatory and investigative roles with a focus on working with industry. His most recent role has been General Manager, Integrity, of Greyhound Racing Victoria. In this role, Mr Gillard ensured the strategic and operational development of integrity and professional standards across Greyhound Racing in Victoria. Mr Gillard previously worked with Worksafe Victoria and was also Chairman of the bullying prevention charity, Bully Zero.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk accepts the recommendation of the independent recruitment panel and welcomes Mr Gillard to the Commissioner’s role.

“Mr Gillard comes with significant and relevant industry experience. I am pleased that this appointment will continue to ensure racing in Queensland is fair and goes from strength to strength.”

Minister for Education, Minister for Industrial Relations and Minister for Racing, the Honourable Grace Grace said she is pleased by Mr Gillard’s appointment and welcomes the breadth of experience he will bring to the role, particularly on animal welfare, and engagement with industry.

“I look forward to working with Mr Gillard, particularly in continuing to deliver a racing industry for all codes that gives all participants the best industry we can have across all Queensland”.
