Commitment for world-class Canterbury Primary School

Liberal Party Victoria

A Matt Guy Liberals and Nationals Government will provide $7.8 million for the redevelopment of Canterbury Primary School’s outdated facilities.

The school itself hosts more than 650 students, but is now outdated after years of neglect, despite it crying out for support from the State Government.

In 2018, the school finalised a facilities masterplan to upgrade the current teaching spaces as well as prepare for future enrolment growth.

This commitment will see the school’s vision and masterplan come to life, with the delivery of a discovery centre, maker centre, senior leadership area, student bicycle shelter and landscaping works across the site.

Leader of the Liberal Party, Matt Guy, said that Canterbury Primary School was the latest in a suite of school announcements.

“I want a government I lead to be known for delivering world-class education, with the best schools and best teachers for the brightest students in the country.”

“We will do everything in our power to reverse the devastating impacts of our kids being away from the classroom for years”

Liberal Candidate for Hawthorn, John Pesutto, visited the Principal and Vice Principal of the School on 24 February 2022 to review the masterplan and begin the process of consultation that has led to today’s announcement.

Mr Pesutto said he would be proud to be deliver the upgrades for which Canterbury Primary School had been asking for so long.

“Canterbury Primary School has done the hard yards, identified what they need and developed a masterplan. Government funding is the last piece of the puzzle, which the State Government has failed to deliver.”

“Only a Liberals and Nationals Government will give our kids the support they need and world-class education they deserve.”
