Community grants set to boost region

Community group and event organisers can apply for up to $5,000 from Swan Hill Rural City Council’s Community Grants Program, due to open on Monday, 13 July 2020.

The Community Grants Program is broken into two categories, the Event Support Fund which provides assistance to new and existing events that encourage social and economic benefits to our region and the Community Development Fund, which assists eligible community groups and organisations to meet their goals.

Swan Hill Rural City Council Director Development and Planning, Heather Green said Council hoped the grants program would provide a much needed boost for the community.

“Local sporting and community groups have taken a big hit during Covid-19 restrictions. We hope this funding opportunity will assist those that have been doing it tough, as well as reinvigorate our region,” she said.

“Last year, 24 community groups and 33 events shared in more than $137,000.

“Funding went to diverse projects and events, which included contributing to infrastructure upgrades and enhancements, new and improved equipment, and assisting local organisers to conduct and develop their event.

“This year we have increased our budget and additional funds are now available” she added.

Ms Green encouraged all groups and organisations, in particular those significantly impacted by Covid-19 restrictions, to consider applying this year.

“Grants like these support our community and have a significant impact by stimulating the economy, encouraging events to bring visitors to the region and improving our local facilities.”

Application forms and guidelines will be available via Council’s website www.swanhill.vic.gov.au.

Applicants close on Monday,17 August, 5.00pm.
