Community Hall Odyssey coming your way soon: Bega Valley

Wyndham Community Hall

27 November 2023

Rich in history and behind historic timber doors, you will find a valued team of dedicated volunteers investing time and energy serving the community from their beloved hall.

Bega Valley Shire Council is excited to announce the celebration of 18 community halls across the shire with events that form the Community Hall Odyssey.

Council’s Director Community, Environment and Planning, Emily Harrison said our devoted volunteers work hard to preserve the charm and character of our halls.

“These selfless volunteers are the heart of important community spaces, supporting their communities to come together by providing a place to connect,” Ms Harrison said.

“We have been fortunate to secure funding from the NSW Government to invest into the reactivation and sustainability of our volunteer-managed community halls, through the NSW Social Cohesion grant.

“This has provided an opportunity for our amazing community hall volunteers to host and showcase a series of unique ‘one off’ events in halls across the shire.

“We know from experience, the events and programs that take place in our community halls activate relationships, enhance social connectedness, and reduce loneliness.

“They result in improved general health, mental health, personal and social well-being for all.”

Over the next few months, community hall committees across the shire are hosting an array of unique events for their local community.

Candelo Hall, Friday 1 December: This is Us – community banner celebration and bush dance.

Wyndham Hall, Saturday 2 December: Wyndham community concert – Meet and Greet.

Nethercote Hall, Saturday 16 December: Nethercote Christmas Party.

Towamba Hall, Tuesday 26 December: Towamba Community Boxing Day Cricket Match and BBQ.

More community hall events will be added to our webpage as they are confirmed and also promoted on Facebook.

“When we engage with others, we strengthen connections, cultivate ideas and foster healthy rapport with others,” Ms Harrison said.

“We hope each community enjoys their event and appreciates the hard work of their local volunteers.

“Information about your local hall and how to book an event can be found on Council’s website and if you’re interested in becoming a community hall volunteer, you can find how on our website.”
