The free two-day event brings together scientists, naturalists, environmental specialists and community members to discover, record and celebrate the plants, animals and fungi that call Croom Reserve home.
BioBlitz offers a unique opportunity for the community to contribute to real scientific research while discovering the rich biodiversity of Croom Reserve. Through expert-led activities including bird surveys, plant identification, frog monitoring and spotlight walks, participants can deepen their connection with nature and help collect valuable information that supports local conservation efforts.
Shellharbour City Mayor Chris Homer encouraged residents of all ages to take part in the event and discover the remarkable biodiversity hidden within Croom Reserve.
“What makes BioBlitz so special is that every observation contributes to a bigger picture,” Mayor Homer said.
“The data collected by participants helps us better understand the biodiversity within Croom Reserve and supports future conservation efforts. It’s a wonderful example of how our community can make a meaningful contribution to protecting the environment.”
“It’s amazing what can be found when people take the time to look closely. Whether you’re attending with family, friends or on your own, you’ll leave with a deeper connection to nature, and a better understanding of why these places are worth protecting.”
BioBlitz forms part of Council’s broader commitment to sustainability, conservation and community science. Croom Reserve continues to support a diverse range of native species, and the event aims to inspire greater awareness, appreciation and stewardship of this valuable natural area.
