During Stage 4 restrictions, Council will ensure that services that impact the safety, health and wellbeing of the community are given top priority – as has been its focus throughout the pandemic.
Council’s essential services such as road, drain and footpath maintenance, rubbish and recycling collection, tree services, maternal and child health, immunisations and maintenance of outdoor spaces will continue – but with some modifications to comply with current COVID-19 directions and advice.
Except for Mt Cannibal Reserve, Council’s parks, nature and recreation reserves remain open for people to visit for exercise only – provided government exercise restrictions are followed and the park is within 5 kilometres from home. Playgrounds, skate parks, BBQ facilities, BMX tracks, outdoor exercise equipment and basketball rings cannot be used, in line with the restrictions.
While most Council buildings and facilities remain closed, Council will continue to provide most services online and over the phone – including customer requests and applications, planning permits, pet registration, and support for young people, seniors and our CALD community.
Innovative ways have been found to deliver a number of services, including the Casey Cardinia Libraries home delivery service for vulnerable residents, and its online event program. Council will continue to stay agile and responsive in its service delivery.
In order to respond to the critical and ever-changing needs of our community at this time, Council has put extra resources into areas including pandemic response and emergency management, community grants, and business and community support. This includes coordinating the local delivery of two important Victorian Government programs – one to provide free face masks to vulnerable people, and the other to provide practical, social and emotional support to people who are isolated during this pandemic (the CASI initiative).
Cr Jeff Springfield said Council would remain absolutely focused on looking after the community during this very challenging time.
“These Stage 4 restrictions are unlike anything we’ve experienced before. This is an extremely tough time for business owners and operators, and indeed, for so many across the wider community.
“Council will continue to be there for our community, and we’ll keep supporting and working closely with government health agencies and Victoria Police in the collective fight against COVID-19,” Cr Springfield said.
“It’s now more important than ever that we all work together, look out for one another, and follow the latest advice from health authorities to help slow the virus’ spread.”
