Orange residents planning to attend this year’s Anzac Day commemorations in Robertson Park are being encouraged to make sure they register on line before attending Sunday’s event.
Tuesday night’s Orange City Council meeting approved traffic plans proposed by the Anzac Day organisers and local police. There are a number of changes to this year’s arrangements, prompted by COVID-safe strategies.
The Dawn Service will begin at 6.30am this year, instead of 5.30am, to ensure there is more light to let people comply with COVID-safe distancing and ticketing arrangements.

The two marches will start at the Orange Ex-Services Club and proceed down Byng St to Robertson Park. For COVID-safe reasons, organisers are asking residents not to stand on the footpath to watch the marches, but instead to gather in Robertson Park. This year, each school has been asked to supply a small, representative number of students to join the veterans in marching.
The dawn service and the main commemoration are ticketed events. Tickets are available online
Summer St will also close for part of Anzac Day this year, despite the marches being held in Byng St. The extra Summer St closure is aimed at minimising traffic noise for the services in Robertson Park.
Under the arrangements, five streets will close from 5.30am to 7.30am for the Dawn Service and from 10.00am to 12.30pm for the Main Service on Sunday 25 April.
The streets to close are:
- Summer Street between Peisley Street and Anson Street
- Anson Street between Byng Street and Summer Street
- Byng Street between Peisley Street and Anson Street
- Lords Place between Byng Street and Summer Street
- McNamara Street between Byng Street and Summer Street.
While most shops are traditionally closed on the morning of Anzac Day, access will also be closed to to the car parks off Byng St, Anson St and Lords Place during the street closures.
