Company fined $375,000 after worker injured while using grain mill

Woodward Foods Australia Pty Ltd has been convicted and fined $375,000 in the Industrial Court of NSW as a result of a prosecution by SafeWork NSW.

The proceedings arose from an incident on 21 January 2023, when a worker suffered serious injuries while using a grain mill to prepare cattle feed.

Woodward Foods Australia plead guilty to an offence pursuant to section 32 of the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 for failing to ensure, so far as is reasonably practicable, the health and safety of workers under section 19(1) of the Act.

The Court also imposed an adverse publicity order.

The judgment against Woodward Foods Australia is published on the NSW Caselaw website.

Woodward Foods Australia has the right to appeal against its sentence.
