NSW Telco Authority’s Head of Network Operations and Emergency Management Rania Wannous presented at the 2nd Annual Regional Connectivity Symposium on 30 May 2024.

The two-day symposium was co-hosted by the Connectivity Innovation Network and the NSW Smart Sensing Network at the Wagga Wagga campus of Charles Sturt University.

Facilitated by Connectivity Innovation Network Director Dr Ian Oppermann, the symposium brought together farming experts, local community members, emergency services, government and industry stakeholders to discuss ways to improve connectivity and network sensing in the region.

Rania spoke about NSW Telco Authority’s critical role leading the Telecommunications Services Functional Area (TELCOFA) in response to significant telecommunications outages, citing the 2023 Optus outage as a notable example. She also reaffirmed our commitment to enhancing connectivity for regional and remote communities, outlining some of our key all-of-government programs and initiatives.

With a focus on agricultural needs in the NSW Riverina, local representatives and speakers provided perspectives on the challenges faced by regional communities and shared their invaluable insights and expertise.

The Connectivity Innovation Network held its second demonstration of the large-area wi-fi system during the two-day event. Attendees also toured the Charles Sturt University Global Digital Farm, which showcased innovative technology to support farmers in the field.
