About 3am this morning (Friday 30 October 2020), officers at the Police Operations Centre attached to Operation Corona Virus were made aware of an incident involving a constable on duty at a quarantine hotel in Sydney earlier today.
It’s been reported that the constable, who is attached to a specialist command, entered the room of a man undergoing mandatory quarantine who had recently arrived on an international flight.
After leaving the man’s room, the constable then remained at the hotel for a short time before returning to a police station to complete his shift.
The constable and one close contact have since been directed to self-isolate at home and to monitor for COVID-19 symptoms. They will also undergo COVID-19 tests.
The male traveller had undergone testing prior to arriving in Australia and received a negative result. He will remain in mandatory quarantine and undergo a further COVID-19 test.
NSW Police are working with NSW Health to ensure all close contacts are tested for COVID-19, monitored, and remain in isolation.
The matter is now the subject of an internal investigation.
